Towards the Breeding Objectives of the Grain Quality of Hybrid Rice

hybrid rice combinations and 48 conventional rice varieties applied in the provinces ofGuangxi,Guangdong,Yunnan,Hunan,Fujian etc. were analyzed in the grain quality characters. The re-sults showed that most hybrid rice combinations were good in cooking and nutrition quality, but poor inmilling and appearance quality. So the objectives in breeding quality hybrid rice combinations should be rais-ing milled rice recovery and head yield recoverage, reducing the percentage of chalky grain and grain chalki-ness, improving transparency and the tenderness of cooked rice, and lowering the amylose content.
