The applicable anatomical study of brachial plexus in the spinal canal

WU Hai-yu,WANG Shu-feng.Department of Hand Surgery,Beijing Jishuitan Hospital ,Beijing 100035
Objective: To provide cross-sectional anatomical foundation for the computed tomography myelography(CTM) to display the anterior and posterior rootlets of brachial plexus accurately.Method:The origin, length, angle to the spinal cord, number of nerve bundle of anterior and posterior rootlets of brachial plexus in the spinal canal were measured in 8 adult cadaver specimens by opening the spinal canal. The morphological features of the anterior and posterior rootlets of brachial plexus were observed through the cross-section anatomy in another 5 adult cadaver specimens.Result:The length of rootlet from C_5 to T_1 was increased, the angle of the rootlet to the spinal cord was decreased gradually. The length of dorsal rootlet of C_5 from the spinal cord to the intervertebral foramina was the shortest, which was (12.74±1.83)mm,the anterior rootless of T_1 was the longest, which was (20.84 ± 2.06) mm.The largest angle to the spinal cord was the C_5,which was (58.54±5.43)°,the smallest angle to the spinal cord was the T_1,which was (24.54±4.68)°.The morphological feature of C_8T_1 nerve root crosssection showed the vertical section of anterior and posterior rootlet, the morphological feature of C_ 5~7 cross intradually at section showed the horizontal plane of anterior and posterior rootlets. Conclusion:The imaging feature of anterior and dorsal rootlets of C_ 5~7 on CTM were the strip alike filling defect ,the C_8T_1 nerve root were the round alike filling defect.
