To evaluate the morphological parameters of placental dysfunction in the patients withpergnancy-induced hypertension (PIH ), 3 3 placentae with PIH (14,10 and 9 cases for mild, moderate and severe PIH resPectively)and 14 placentae with no-PIH were measured by stereologicaltechnique. Results: no significant difference was found in volume proportions among placental intervillous space, villous trophoblast, villous capillary and villous mesenchyme (P0.05 ). Volumeproportions of placental infarct villi in PIH were significantly higher than those in no-PIH (P0. 01). Placental villous surface density in severe PIH was significantly lower than that in no-PIH(P0. 01). Surface density of placental capillary in moderate and severe PIH was significantlylower than that in no-PIH (P0. 01). Indication: Increased placental infarct villi and decreasedsurface density of villi and villous capillary in the patients with PIH may lead to placental dysfunction,
