Pharmacokinetics and the relative bioavailability of clarithromycin tablets and capsules

The pharmacokinetics and relative bioavailability of clarithromycin were studied in 8 male healthy volunteers who received 500mg clarithromycin tablets and capsules orally in crossways. Results demonstrated that the data of clarithromycin capsules fitted to one-compartment open model. The main pharmacokinetic parameters C max, T max and AUC were (2.41±0.70)mg/L, (1.81±0.88)h and (21.83±7.06) h·mg/L respectively. The 24h urinary recovery rate was (36.63±9.33)%. The differences of the pharmacokinetic paramenters and urinary recovery rate between the tablet and capsule groups were not statistically significant. Compared with clarithromycin tablets, the relative bioavilability of clarithromycin capasules was ( 94.04±20.27)%. The result showed that the clarithromycin capsules had the same biological effects as the clarithromycin tablets.
