Thermal Modeling of P-T-t Paths in the Higher Himalaya

In this paper, we present a thermal model of the metamorphic P-T-t Paths of the Himalaya sequence exposed to the north of the Main Central Thrust (MCT). Two tecto-metamorphic events are recognized, the first is related to crust thickening produced by imbricated underthrust of the India-Eurasia collision,the second is a thermal event taking place in the shallow crust. We compute the P-T-t paths and discuss two possible mechanism for the high temperature metamorphism in the shallow crust. Comparison of modeling result with P-T paths measured in the Higher Himalaya is favorable to the hypothese of shallow intrusion of granite magma. The result also show low shear strength and insignificant frictional heating on MCT, which coincides with geological and metamorphic observations in this region.
