bjective:To provide anatomic base for transposition of forearm flap pedicled with recurrent interosseous artery for repairing soft tissue defect in proximal forearm, around elbow joint and distal upper arm. Methods:The origin, course, distribution and anastomoses of recurrent interosseous artery were observed on 36 adult upper limb specimens. The length form the origin to the top of olecranon is 6.9±1.1 cm.And a cutaneous branch, which was between anconaeous muscle and extensor carpi ulnaris muscle, was given off at the position of 4.4±1.4 cm below the top of ulna olecranon. The distal branches of the artery anastomoses with the radial recurrent artery, the posterior branches of the radial collateral artery and the middle collateral artery at the posterior cubitar region. Conclusions:Transposition of posterior forearm skin flap with recurrent interosseous artery may provide a new operative method for repairing soft tissue defect in proximal forearm, around elbow joint and the distal upper arm.
