Therapeutic Effectiveness of McKenzie Method in the Treatment of Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Protrusion

Objective: To observe the curative therapeutic effectiveness of McKenzie method in the treatment of lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion(LIDP).Methods: 197 patients with LIDP were randomly divided into 2 groups.The patients in group A were treated by McKenzie method,and those in group B were treated by Maitland spine joint mobilization.Besides,the patients in both two groups were subjected to the auxiliary treatments such as acupuncture,massage,traction methods.Results: The patients in both two groups were treated for two weeks.Compared to the measurements before the treatment,pain score was decreased significantly and angle of straight leg uplifting was improved.The curative effect in group A was superior to that in group B(P0.01).Conclusion: McKenzie method combined with other physical therapies can obtaine more satisfactory effectiveness in the treatment of LIDP.
