The serum level of tumor necrosis factor α(TNF α) rises in patients with chronic congestive heart failure. When it is higher than or equal to 10 -8 mol/L, TNFα can act as an endocrine hormone, and by incorporating with its receptors(soluble type and memberance combining type), it can cause direct damage to myocardial fibrosis, influence the process of myocyto apoptosis and eventually precipitate or promote heart dysfunction to occur. TNF has been regarded as a new role in the mechanism of CHF, and anti TNF agents should be considered in the treatment of heart failure.
