Objective To analyze the influences of sertraline on medication compliance and glucose metabolism of diabetic patients with depression and to provide the base for treating depression of diabetic patients. Methods The subjects(90 diabetic patients with depression) were randomly divided into treatment group(45 cases) and control groups(45 cases), two groups were treated with conventional hypoglycemic medication and diabetes health education, the treatment group was treated with sertraline. Both two groups were assessed by Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD), fasting blood glucose(FPG), 2 hour postprandial blood glucose( 2 h PG) and glycated hemoglobin( Hb A1C) before treatment and after treatment for 8 weeks were detected. The medication compliance was evaluated. Results After treatment, HAMD scores, medication compliance, FPG, 2 h PG and Hb A1 Cof two groups were significantly improved(P 0.01 or P 0.05). There were significant differences of HAMD scores, total effective rates, medication compliance, FPG, 2 h PG and Hb A1 Clevels between treatment group and control group(P0.01 or P0.05).Conclusion Sertraline can obviously alleviate the depressive symptoms of diabetic patients with depression, raise medication compliance, improve glucose metabolism and enhance the quality of life.
