On the Fundamental Problems Concerning Summer Retreat Economy

With climate warming and city heat-island effect being intensified,summer retreat tourism is becoming a new and strategically precious resource. Summer retreat economy is therefore receiving increasing attention in this context. The most fundamental problems regarding the summer retreat economy like its concepts,connotation,extension,characteristics,and structure still remain unclear and controversial. The paper makes an attempt to provide insight into such essential problems on the basis of a systematic review of the practice and research about summer retreat economy. It is indicated that: 1) the summer retreat economy is defined as a systematic economic mode which relies highly on climate resources and is based on summer retreat tourism; 2) the summer retreat economy is primarily characterized by climate economy,service economy,ecological economy,comprehensive economy,and brand economy; 3) there exist core industry circle,mainstay industry circle,and extensional industry circle in the summer retreat economic industry system; and 4) the four-level promotion theory seems to be useful for the exploitation of summer resorts. Finally,the paper gives some related policy advice on how to promote the development of the summer retreat economy in China.
