Significance of serum eosinophil cationic protein measurement in children with Henoch-Schoenlein purpura.

Objective:To study the role of eosinophil cationic protein(ECP) in children with Henoch-Schoenlein purpura.Methods:Serum ECP of 42 HSP children was assessed with Pharmarsia CAP System ECP FEIA.Results:In acute phase there were marked increase of serum ECP levels in children with HSP.The level of serum ECP in children with kidney abnormality were higher than those of the remission HSP,and those of the normal controls.Serum ECP levels were not markedly different between children at the remisson HSP and normal controls.Conclusion:ECP plays a crucial part in HSP;measurement of serum ECP level is of great value for diagnosing HSP,evaluating its severity and guiding the effect of anti-inflammation treatment.
