STUDY OF COMPUTERIZED IMAGE ANALYSIS OF CHONDROGENIC TUMORS AND THEIR IDENTIFICATION AND CLASSIFICATION

Computerized analysis in the development and measurement of the nuclear images in single tumor cells as well as in the cell number per large visual field in tissue sections of various types of chondrogenic tumors have been carried out in five cases of ench-ondromas and chondrosarcomas with low, middle, and high degrees of malignancy respectively. It was found that the tumor cell numbers in large visual field and the circumference length, area, circularity in section of the single nuclei etc., all showed gradual increase or decrease corresponding to the increasing degrees of malignancy in tumors. This study also showed that satisfactory results could be obtained by using the organizational mapping and linear classification to identify various type of tumor. These all indicated that the results of computerized image analysis will be useful and objective in discriminating and classifying benign or malignant chondrogenic tumors
