APPLICATION OF DNA IMAGE ANALYSIS IN NEEDLE BIOPSY OF BONE TUMOURS

The nuclear DNA content was measured in 35 needle biopsy of bone tumours and tumour-like lesions by means of image analytic system. The result showed that the DNA content in malignant bone tumours was higher than that in benign ones. The difference was statistically highly significant. DNA index of giant cell tumour of bone was widely distributed between malignant and benign tumours, exhibiting characteristic of "medial tumour". DNA content in recurrence group of giant cell tumour was significantly higher than non-recurrence group, which indicated that there was close relation between DNA content and biological behaviour of tumour. DNA analysis of needle biopsy help to get more information about proliferating ability as guideline for selection of operation types, differentiation between benign and malignant tumours, and prediction of prognosis. Image DNA analysis of needle biopsy in bone tumours is practical and shows certain significant clinical value.
