THE FUNCTIONS OF PERIPHERALTYPE BENZODIAZEPINE RECEPTOR AND THE NEW DISCOVERY
Hu Benrong (Department of Pharmacology)
The studies of peripheraltype benzodiazepine receptor showed that there exist many differences between its characteristics and that of the centraltype receptors, which may be shown in the tissue distribution, the subcellular localization, and receptor agonists and antagonists. The mechanism of the peripheral type recetpor is not related to GABA and chlorine channels, but may be associated with calcium channels. Its agonists block the contraction of the smooth muscles caused by Ca2+, and antagonize some effects of calcium blockers. The PTBR level in the ischemic brain area are elevated. Determination of the PTBR level in the brain area is considered as a simple and effective method to determine the brain injury.
