IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL STUDY OF HOMOLOGOUS CONJUNCTIVAL TRANSPLANTATION IN SD RATS

Zheng Yongxin Liu Jinling Chen Jiaqi Yang Peizeng (Zhongshan Opthalmic Center, Sun Yat sen University of Medical Sciences, Guangzhou, 510060)
Immunohistochemical studies were carried out to study the immunological changes in the conjunctival graft in SD rats after homologous conjunctival transplantation. Two peaks of CD 3, CD 4, CD 8 positive cells, macrophages and B cells were observed in the conjunctiva one day and four weeks after conjunctival transplantation. A large number of dentritic cells were also noted four weeks after the transplantation. All of these cells returned to normal levels 12 weeks after the transplantation. The results suggest that homologous conjunctival graft is tolerated by the recipient rats although possible immunological rejection may occurs.
