Preliminary report on the occurrence of Athetis lepigone in Shandong Province in 2012

Occurrence of Athetis lepigone Mschler in corn fields and soybean fields were investigated in 17 cities of Shandong Province in summer of 2012.The results showed that the pest spread all over Shandong Province. The pest occurred most seriously in Yantai with average density of 3.27larva per square meter,followed by Weifang,Linyi,Laiwu and Liaocheng,with the average density of 1.87,1.77,1.74 and 1.62 larva per square meter,respectively.The maximum density was 16larvae per square meter.The 3rd and4th instar larva of A.lepigone has a large occurrence amount in middle to late July.The larva prefers to hiding in humid surface soil covered by the wheat straw,peanut seedlings and withered grass.
