Effects of pruning wound age and water stress on wound infection by Botryosphaeria dothidea

In order to investigate the effects of pruning wound age and water stress on apple pruning wound infection by Botryosphaeria dothidea,apple pruning wounds with different ages or water stress were inoculated with conidia of the pathogen.The results showed that,pruning wounds within 2 months in spring were susceptible to pathogen and the infected wound percentage was high.Pruning wounds formed in summer and autumn within2 weeks were susceptible,and later they gradually become resistant against the infection.Loss of or stressed by water reduced the resistance of the pruning wounds against the infection by B.dothidea.Preventing the infection from pruning wounds would depress the infection percentage of apple seedlings and diminish the damaging by the pathogen.
