XIE Shiliang,SHAO Yongfu, FENG Qiang et al. Department of Abdomen Surgery,Cancer Hospital,Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Peking Union Medical Collage,Beijing 100021,China.
Objective To study the prognosis after curative resection of rectal leiomyosarcome. Method The data of 43 patients with rectal leiomyosarcoma which underwent resection from 1974 to 2000 were reviewed retrospectively. Results In univariate analysis, younger group( 50 years) showed poorer prognosis in the disease free survival curve. There was a strong trend toward higher local recurrence rate in the local excision group than that in the radical resection group (50% vs 27%, P 0 05). There was no significant difference in the distant metastasis rate between the local excision and radical resection groups (30% vs 26%, P 0 05). Conclusions The younger shows poorer prognosis. Radical resection may be superior to local excision in the prevention of local recurrence, but not distant metastasis.
