Effects of Extro-Nitrogenous Compounds on Callus Multiplication and Ephedrine Production in Ephedra sinica Stapf Cell Culture

Multiplication of the calli from E. sinica stem increased under supplementing with 20 and 40 mg·L-1 sodium nitrite and 50 mg·L-1 phenylalanine. However, adding ammonia and methionine in medium made callus multiplication decreased, and the higher the concentration of them, the lower the callus multiplication ability. It's effective to enhance the production of ephedrine in the callus under supplementing with 60 mg·L-1 methionine, 20 mg·L-1 ammonia and 50 mg·L-1 phenylalanine.
