Pressure Effect on Structural Relaxation and Mechanical Properties of LaAlCuNi Bulk Metallic Glass

La62.0Al15.7(Cu0.5,Ni0.5)22.3 bulk metallic glass(BMG) was prepared by copper mould casting method.The BMG was high pressure(HP) treated under the pressure of 3.0~5.0 GPa at room temperature,and the effects of the HP treatment on the structural relaxation and the mechanical properties were investigated.The HP treatment had little influence on the glass transition temperatures of the BMG,but it resulted in an extensive structural relaxation,depending on the applied pressure.The free volume and the onset temperatures of the first crystallization(Tx1) increased with the increase of the applied pressure up to 4.0 GPa,and then decreased with the pressure further increasing to 5.0 GPa.The HP treatment had a big influence on the mechanical properties of the BMG too.The change of the hardness of the BMG with the applied pressure exhibited the same trend as that of the free volume.
