Roasting and Leaching Behavior of Spodumene in Sulphuric Acid Process

The roasting and leaching behavior of spodumene in sulphuric acid process was investigated.Thermal analysis results of ore sample showed that the peak temperature of crystal conversion was 1006 ℃.The temperature,the time and the size were investigated in the roasting process of crystal conversion.X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis showed that most of α-spodumene converted to β-spodumene when roasted at 1050 ℃ for 30 min.Owing to larger particle size of the ore sample(particle diameter was about 0~3 mm),which led to inadequate heat transfer,it was not appropriate to directly roast spodumene ore.The results of orthogonal experiment in sulphating roasting process showed that sulfuric acid consumption affected the leaching rate significantly,then temperature and time.The preferred condition of acidification was as follows: sulfuric acid consumption was 1.4 times of the theoretical value,the roasting temperature was 250 ℃,and the roasting time was 30 min.Theoretical value was the theoretical amount of the sulfuric acid reacting with alkali metal like lithium,sodium,potassium in ore.The optimal leaching conditions were as follows: liquid-solid ratio was 1.85 for 15 min at room temperature.Dynamics and thermodynamics theory was applied to explain why the leaching efficiency was high at low temperature,low lithium concentration and acidity condition,and the pH value was the key influence factor.
