Behavior of Flow Stress of 2091 Al Li alloy During Hot Compression

Shen Jian (General Research Institute for Nonferrous Metals, Beijing 100088, China)  
The flow stress behavior of the 2091 Al Li alloy during plastic deformation at elevated temperature was studied by isothermal compression test using Gleeble 1500. The results show that the flow stress is controlled by both strain rate and temperature. The steady state flow stress is however, independent from true strain. A hyperbolic sine relationship is found to correlate well the flow stress with the strain rate, and an Arrhenius relationship with the temperature. The flow stress of the 2091 alloy during high temperature deformation can be represented by a Zener Hollomon parameter including the Arrhenius term.
