Psychosocial Aspects in Three Universities during SARS Epidemic in Beijing

Objective:To investigate psychosocial status of university students during SARS epidemic Method:By means of stratified cluster sampling, Symptom Checklist-90, Zung's Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, Zung's Self-rating Depression Scale, and General Information Questionnaire were applied among 6280 students in 3 universities in Beijing Results:Positive rate of Symptom Checklist-90 factors was 7 3%, significantly lower than those of various populations reported before Except phobic anxiety and psychoticism,mean scores of various factors of the subjects were lower than those in normal population (t=2 17-53 65, P0 05) The positive rate of anxiety symptom was 9 5%; and that of depression was symptom 29 6% Conclusion: Symptoms of anxiety and depression are prevalent among university students during SARS epidemic in Beijing
