Results of occupational health examination on lead-exposed workers of a lead battery manufacturer in Wuxi City

[Objective]To understand the effect of lead on health of exposed workers,so as to adopt effective protection measures. [Methods]The physical examination data of employees that worked consecutively at least 2 years(2009,2010) in a lead battery manufacturer was analyzed..The rank-sum test was adopted to perform comparison of blood lead levels. [Results]The blood lead level of workers in 2010 [(0.482±0.154) μmol/L)] was significantly higher than that in 2009[(0.419±0.095) μmol/L](P0.01);the abnormal rates of electrocardiogram,blood routine examination results,hemoglobin in 2010 was higher than that in 2009,while the difference was not significant. [Conclusion]The lead level in workplace air of this enterprise exceeds the standard.Lead can cause certain damage on exposed workers' health,therefore the operation environment and individual protection should be improved.
