Effects of curcumin on spatial learning and memory deficiency of dementia mice by D-galactose

[Objective]To investigate the effect of curcumin on learning and memory of dementia mice caused by D-galactose.[Methods]A total of 50 ICR mice were randomly divided in to 5 groups: control group,AD model group,pre-treatment group,co-treatment group,post-treatment group,with 10 mice in each group.After medication for 45 days,Morris maze test was used for behavioral test,AChE and ChAT were taken as study indicators,the influencing effects were observed.[Results]The curcumin could improve the learning and memory of mice by different administration methods.The ChAT activity increased,while AChE activity decreased in brain tissue of mice.The impact of learning and memory in pre-treatment group and co-treatment group was significantly higher than that in post-treatment group(P0.05).[Conclusion]Curcumin has significant protective effect against the decrease of learning and memory of dementia mice caused by D-galactose,and its mechanism is closely related to the decrease of AChE activity.
