Evaluation of various signs of the peripheral lung cancer with 3.0T MRI comparing with conventional CT

Objective To compare the detection performance of 3.0T MRI for various signs of the peripheral lung cancer with conventional CT, and to evaluate the diagnostic value of 3.0T MRI for the peripheral lung cancer. Methods Thirty patients with peripheral lung cancer underwent 3.0T MRI. The imaging signs including the tumor site, shape, size, the intra-tumor structure, changes around the tumor and relationship with bronchus on MRI were compared with conventional CT. Results The visualization of tumor margin and the small bronchus changing were more clear on CT image than on MRI (P0.05). MRI had no statistical significance in the tumor site, shape, size, the intra-tumor structure and pleural involvement with CT (P0.05). Conclusion Most signs of peripheral lung cancer could be demonstrated well on 3.0T MRI. 3.0T MR imaging can be a supplementary imaging technique for peripheral lung cancer.
