Effect of Artemisia Annua L.Extract on Expression of TNF-α and ICAM-1 in Rats with Atrial Fibrillation

Objective To observe the effect of artemisia annua L.extract(AALE) on expression of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1) in rats with atrial fibrillation,and to explore anti-arrhythmic mechanism of artemisia annua.Methods Sixty Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats are divided into the control group(n=15),the model group(n=15),AALE group(n=15),and captopril group(n=15).Models with atrial fibrillation were established by sublingual intravenous administration of calcium chloride and acetylcholine mixture.The concentrations of serum TNF-α and ICAM-1 were tested by ELISA.Results The levels of serum TNF-α and ICAM-1 in model group were significantly increased than that in the control group(P0.05).The expression of TNF-α and ICAM-1 in captopril group was most significant,and that in AALE group was slightly lower than that in captopril group.There was no significant difference between these two groups(P0.05).Conclusion Artemisia annua L.extract might inhibit cardiac structural remodeling and electrical remodeling,and reduce the incidence of arrhythmias by inhibiting the inflammatory cytokines TNF-α,ICAM-1.
