Influence of FSW technology on joint performance of 7050 aluminum alloy

Friction stir welding experiment of 7050 aluminum plate was conducted.The experiment results show that when the rotating speed is 800 r/min and the welding speed is 200 mm/min,the tensile strength of weded joint is 455.87 MPa,achieving 88.86% of parent material strength,and elongation rate is 7.34%.The hardness of weld center is high with micro hardness about 155HV and its width about 7 mm,the width of low hardness zone is about 4 mm on both sides of the high hardness zone.Weld section morphology presents the inverted conical shape including four clear area.WNZ microstructure is equiaxed grain with small particle size,the average diameter is 5 μm or so.Tensile fracture occurs in the weld heat affected zone of the back side with single dimple shape,the size of it is about 5~10 μ m.
