Research and experiment of forestry positioning information based on GIS and Total Station.

This paper puts forward a new method to collect field data by Total Station automatically,such as the center coordinate, height and diameter of trees, and the species is considered as an attribute data. All these data will be transported into the computers and come into being database automatically. For the first time, the digital graph of forestry is overlaid with topographic map, so the precision of forest mensuration can be checked and the variety of topographic map can be provided. The information of distribution of species, diameter and height can be provided in forestry engineering projects. The information management, result output and information visualization can be realized by GIS. The survey results of 587 trees and 15 subcompartments in the side of Fourth Loop of Beijing have been checked by topographic map, and this method represents the characteristics of high_precision and high_efficiency because of the high automation of Total Station.
