Building contour extraction method from airborne LiDAR data

Building contour is an important element of 3 D reconstruction, it plays an important role in the development of digital city. In order to improve the efficiency and accuracy of building contour extraction based on airborne laser point cloud data, this paper puts forward the methods of point cloud data filtering, building point cloud extraction, building contour extraction and building contour regularization based on original laser point cloud data. Taking LiDAR point cloud data of a certain area in Hangzhou City as an example, the method proposed in this paper is used to conduct experiments. The experimental results show that the building contour can be extracted effectively using this method. The average contour length difference of the building is 0.25 m, the average contour area difference is 2.1 m~2, and the average contour angle difference is 0.7 °, indicating that this method can be used to extract the building contour of small volume and in short distance, and the research results can provide theoretical reference for the extraction of such building contour.
