Nutritional Components of Coscinesthes salicis Gressitt

Coscinesthes salicis Gressitt is a dangerous insect pest of some fast-growing and high-yield forests such as poplar and willow. The biochemical analysis results showed that the protein contents of the larvae and pupae were 43.95% and 49.14%, and the fat contents were 45.98% and 34.80%, respectively. There were sixteen kinds of amino acids in the larvae and pupae of Coscinesthes salicis, and seven of them were necessary nutrition to human being. Moreover abundant contents of K, P, Mg, Fe, Cu, Ca, S, Zn and Mn were also found in the larvae and pupae. Therefore Coscinesthes salicis is a very useful natural insect resource having great potential to be exploited.
