Progress in Applications of Electrospun Nanofibrous Membranes

Electrospinning is a simple and effective technology to fabricate polymeric micro-and nano-fibers.Because electrospinning has many advantages such as costeffective set-up and processing procedure,high productivity of nanofibers,large specific surface areas of electrospun mats,and wide applicability for various materials,it has drawn special attention recently.The applications of electrospun mats are the basic motivation and final goals in electrospinning research. In order to investigate the current status of the applications and the main research trends of electrospinning,we review several main application areas of nanofibrous membranes,including tissue engineering,drug release,nano-sensors,energy applications,biochips,and catalyst supports,and we also prospect the development trends of electrospinning.
