Research of Resistance to Salmonella Typhimurium Infection Using Banlangen Polysaccharide

Objective: To demonstrate whether banlangen polysaccharide could inhibit the infection of Salmonella typhimurium in mice.Methods: Banlangen polysaccharide was extracted with boiling methods.BALB/c mice treated with banlangen polysaccharide were injected via intraperitoneally for three days successively,while the control mice were treated with PBS.After three days,every mouse was infected with Salmonella typhimurium C5.The survival rate of mice was recorded.The numbers of viable bacteria in the spleen was counted and the WI(weight index)of spleen,level of IgG in mouse sera and level of IFN-γ in mouse spleens were measured.Results: In banlangen polysaccharide group,survival rate of mice was higher than in control group.The numbers of viable bacteria in spleen and WI of spleen were much lower than control group.The levels of IgG and IFN-γ were also increased in banlangen polysaccharide group.Conclusion: Banlangen polysaccharide can protect host against Salmonella typhimurium C5 infection by enhancing humoral immunity and cellular immunity.
