Study on the factors influencing photocatalytic degradation of formaldehyde by TiO_2 loaded on activated carbon fiber

A photocatalytic gas reactor system was manufactured by which the photocatalytic degradation of stimulant indoor formaldehyde gas by TiO2 supported on activated carbon fiber under UV light was studied,the catalytic activity of TiO2 loaded on activated carbon fiber was tested,and the main controlling factors which a effected the degradation rate of formaldehyde such as the intensity of UV light,the acidity of catalyst,the humidity in reactor and the reactive time were discussed.The results showed that: the degradation rate of formaldehyde was promoted greatly because of the synergies of TiO2and activated carbon fiber.The degradation rate of formaldehyde was increased only 11.71% by doubled the intensity of UV light.The degradation rate of formaldehyde could get 68.37% in 60 minutes when activated carbon fiber was soaked by TiO2sol in pH=5.The formaldehyde gas could reach the maximum degradation rate that 82.2% in 60 minutes when the humidity was 81%.The change of formaldehyde degradation rate was declining with the extending of time and the high-point only could reach 94.59%.
