Chaotic Aesthetic Characteristics of Traditional Chinese Opera

ZHANG Xiao;Qingdao Institute of Technology Shandong;
“Chaos” is one of the important categories in Chinese traditional philosophy. Chaotic aesthetics based on “chaos” theory is an important part of Chinese classical aesthetics. It is characterized by integrity, naturalness and transcendence. Chinese traditional art and Chinese traditional philosophy are essentially of the same vein. As a major branch of Chinese traditional art, Chinese traditional opera will naturally be affected by chaotic aesthetics. Opera art pays attention to the expression of freehand brushwork spirit(meaning)contained in its works and the integrity of artistic presentation. When the concept of chaotic aesthetics is integrated into the process of opera creation and performance, it is reflected in the highly freehand brushwork of traditional opera art. The chaotic aesthetic characteristics of Chinese traditional opera art are mainly manifested in three aspects: opera literature, opera performance,and opera stage art, which reflects the beauty of charm and speculative consciousness of Chinese traditional art.
