Influence of intermediate annealing on microstructure and mechanical property of magnesium alloy sheet

The microstructure evolution and mechanical property during intermediate annealing of AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet were investigated by using optical microscope and SEM.The results show that the onset temperature of recrystallization is 200℃.The hardness and the yield strength under the annealed state decrease by 25.4% and 37.1%,respectively,and the elongation increases by 31.3%.The fractography changes from the mixture of cleavage fracture and dimple fracture into entire dimple fracture.The optimal intermediate annealing technology for AZ31 magnesium alloy sheet is annealing at the temperature of 300~320℃ for 30~120 min.
