ALKALINE IONIZED WATER ENHANCING HEAT TOLERANCE AND ANTI-OXIDATIVE FUNCTION OF HEAT-EXPOSED MICE

Objective To observe the effect of alkaline ionized water on heat tolerance and anti-oxidative function of heat-exposed mice.Methods Sixty mice were randomly divided into control group(drink tap water) and experimental group(drink alkaline ionized water).Both groups were exposed to the heat in a hot chamber.Another forty mice were divided into two groups as the same treatment mentioned above,but they were placed in warm water((40.0±0.2)℃) tank to perform swimming test.The survival time and swimming time of mice under hyperthermia were observed.The serum and liver samples in the heatexposed mice were taken for SOD activity and MDA content analysis.Results The survival time and swimming time were 51% and 22.7% more respectively in experimental group than in control group.The SOD activity in serum and liver of the heat-exposed mice were 16.2% and 15.1% more respectively in experimental group than in control group.The MDA content in serum and liver of the heat-exposed mice were 15.9% and 16.3% less respectively in experimental group than in control group.Conclusion Alkaline ionized water can enhance heat tolerance of heat-exposed mice and it might be related to enhancing anti-oxidative function against the damage by free radicals.
