Analysis and simulation of metal flow characteristics for multi-cavity aluminum profile extrusion dies

In this paper, the asymmetric double cavity profile was taken as the research object. With the commercial software Altair Hyperxtride, the extrusion was simulated assuming that the die was rigid. The metal flow characteristics of three different dies were verified under different extrusion speeds and aluminum bar temperatures. The extruded aluminum rods used was 6063 alloy. The segmentation method is used to analyze the flow pattern, through corrosion profile and reconstruct the complete flow pattern. By this method, the evolution and characteristics of welding and the flow pattern of transverse weld during continuous extrusion were also studied. The results show that the analysis method used in the experiment can analyze the metal flow accurately and effectively.
