Design, application and evaluation of student-centered, online+offline teaching mode of Medical Statistics for students of clinical medicine

Objective To investigate the student-centered teaching mode to improve the teaching effect of Medical Statistics.Methods From 2020 to 2021,the teaching research team has reformed and optimized the teaching of Medical Statistics,and selected a class majored in clinical medicine(31 students)of Guizhou Medical University for test and evaluation.The optimization measures of curriculum teaching reform mainly included the construction of a supporting learning resource(including Jamovi software teaching video),relying on Rain Classroom, QQ and other internet software to build a closed-loop teaching(combining online and offline teaching activities)of pre-class preview-classroom teaching-review after class, strengthening the teaching of the use of statistical software, and emphasizing the supervision and management of the learning process, the collection and analysis of learning information, and the interaction between teachers and students.Results The overall satisfaction rate of the students with the teaching was 93.55%.The average score of the final exam paper of students in the experimental class was 83.02,which was higher than that of others students majored in clinical medicine of the same grade(t=-3.484,P=0.0005).The percentages of students who rated the pre-class preview, classroom teaching, and after-class review as very good and good were 87.10%,87.10%,and 77.42%, respectively.90.32% of the students reported that learning Jamovi software was helpful for studying Medical Statistics.Conclusion A student-centered small class teaching mode of medical statistics was basically established and achieved good feedback from students in application, but some teaching steps such as after-school review can still be further optimized and improved.
