Experimental research on the mechanical properties of glutinous rice slurry modified calcined ginger nuts grouting material

In order to explore more suitable grouting materials of filling the cracks in the earthen sites, glutinous rice slurry and the calcined ginger nuts, which are well-suited to the cultural relics restoration requirements of the “repair as old” of the architectural sites, were selected as the main materials.Orthogonal experiments were designed to study the influences of glutinous rice slurry concentration, water-binder ratio, calcined ginger nuts dosage, admixtures and age on the mechanical properties of grouting materials under 16 mix ratios.The results show that under the premise of ensuring the pouring ability, the flexural strength and compressive strength of the grouting material samples are positively correlated with the concentration of glutinous rice slurry and the amount of water-reducing agent, and with the increase of the water-binder ratio and the amount of bentonite, it shows a trend of increasing first and then decreasing.And the calcined ginger nuts contain air-hardening cementitious materials and hydraulic binding materials that can work together with glutinous rice slurry, which has a complicated effect on the flexural and compressive strength of the grouting material.Overall, the increase in the amount of calcined ginger nuts will help improve the mechanical properties of the samples.The flexural and compressive strengths of the grouting material test blocks under different ratios increase with the increase of age, and the trend of change is more significant at 7 d-28 d age.The SEM image shows that the microstructure of the glutinous rice slurry modified calcined ginger nuts grouting material presents a more network structure, and the material adheres to the surface of the soil particles and can better cement the surrounding soil particles.The glutinous rice slurry contains amylopectin dendritic structure that arranges a large number of products regularly and significantly improves the compactness of the slurry after forming.Using the comprehensive balance method, the best mix ratio based on mechanical properties is obtained as the glutinous rice slurry concentration is 6%,the water-binder ratio is 0.55,the water reducing agent content is 2.0%,the bentonite amount is 10%,and the calcined ginger nuts dosage is 15%.
