Objective: To study the effects of saponins from Tribulus terrestris L. (STT) on the diet-induced obese rats. Method: The rats were fed high fat and high carbohydrate diet to induce obesity, and then treated with STT for 6 w and the items related with insulin resistance and hyperlipidemia were observed. Result: STT could control body weight increase and hyperlipidemia effectively. In the same time, STT improved the insulin sensitivity and had a similar effect to Rosiglitazone in oral glucose tolerance test. Conclusion: STT can prevent hyperlipidemia and obesity and improve the insulin sensitivity in diet-induced obese rats.
