Hebei Province Baoding Antiepidemic Station  
We divided the 146 adultinhabitants into 2 groups,i.e.73cases as osteofluorostic group,and the other 73 subjects as non-osteofluorosis group.The incide-nce of osteopenia roentgenograp-hycal(manifested as osteoporosis,trabecular thickening and porosisor reduced mineral content)in theosteofluorostic group was 68.4%,which was significantly heigherthan that in non-osteofluorosticgroup(43.8%)P0.01.This indic-ated that fluorosis increased theoccurance of osteopenia.On theother hand,the biochemical cha-nges which in favour of osteom-alacia or hyperparathyroidismwere quite high in both groupswithout statistic difference whichdenotes that these complicationswere influenced not only by fluo- ride content,but also by nutritional status.In fact,after thesupplement with enough vitaminD and calcium for 5 months,thosepatients with osteopenia or osteo-malacia improved satisfactorily,bone pains were evidently alliv-iated and biochemical parameterstended to be normalized.
