A review of needle types and manipulations of acupuncture for dry eye

The incidence rate of dry eye is increasing year by year, and it shows a trend of younger age onset, it has become the most common eye disease besides refractive errors. Acupuncture, as one therapeutic method of Traditional Chinese Medicine, has definite clinical curative effects and in-depth research. This article reviewed researches involving treatment of dry eye by acupuncture in the past three years, including the types of needles, such as ordinary acupuncture needle, bristle needle, thumbtack needle and plum-blossom needle, as well as manipulations of acupuncture, such as Qi-conduction method, neutral supplementation and draining method and lifting-thrusting-twirling supplementation and draining method, in order to provide ideas for practitioners to treat dry eyes.
