Comparison of Different Cultivation Methods of Watermelon in Plastic-covered Tunnel in Bashang Region of Zhangjiakou City

Objective The watermelon variety‘mwx635'was used as experimental material.Effects of different cultivation methods on growth, development, yield and quality of watermelon in plastic-covered tunnel in Bashang region were studied to screen out the suitable cultivation method.Methods Two cultivation methods of climbing vine and hanging vine were designed by field experiment.The indicators such as growth period, stem diameter, maximum vine length, leaf number, single melon weight, chlorophyll content, sugar content, transverse diameter, vertical diameter and yield of watermelon were studied.Results The flowering time and harvesting time of climbing vines were 7 days earlier and 14 days earlier than those of hanging vines, and the time from flowering to harvesting was 5 days shorter.The maximum vine length, chlorophyll content and sugar content of fruit increased by 13.03%,14.57% and 19.51%,respectively, compared with those of hanging vine cultivation.Compared with hanging vine cultivation, the transverse diameter, vertical diameter, single melon mass and yield increased by 19.11%,17.90%,125.96% and 12.26%,respectively.Conclusion The climbing vine cultivation method was suitable for watermelon cultivation in plastic-covered tunnel in Bashang region.
