Fish stocking program in the Yangtze River

The artificial breeding and releasing program in the Yangtze River has been conducted for almost fifty years since the success of artificial breeding of the four major Chinese carps in 50’s of last century. Although increasing of releasing species and releasing schale has played active roles in enhancement of fishery resources and conservation of endangered and endemic species, this program still need a lots of improvements, especially in the lagislation construction, institution management, releasing criterion, and evaluation of releasing impact. Author has analyzed major problems existed in current artificial freshwater fish breeding and releasing program in the Yangtze River on the basis of summarizing current situation of fish artificial breeding and situation of releasing fish resources in the Yellow River. Author has also introduced some experiences and progress in the aspect of artificial fish breeding and releasing from other foreign institutions and proposed suggestions on future scientific development and effective implementation of artificial fish breeding and releasing.
