A clinical trial of levocetirizine in the treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria

Objective:To evaluate the efficiency and safety of the new kind of second generation antihistamines(levoceti-rizine)in the treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria.Methods:A randomized,double-blinded,parallel comparative clinical trial was performed in44patients.They were divided into two groups,which were treated with5mg /d levocetirizine or10mg /d cetirizine respectively.Results:At day7,14and28,the rates of efficiency were77.28%,86.37%,90.91%respectively in levocetirizine group and68.18%,77.28%,81.82%respectively in cetirizine group.There were no statistic differences of clinical efficiency between the two groups(P0.05).No obvious and severe side effects appeared during the whole trial.Conclusions:Levocetirizine is effective and safe in the treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria.
