ObjectiveTo observe the activity of extracts from Humulus scandens against tuberculous bacillus and to find out the active fraction.MethodsThe method of bacteriostasis in vitro was used to evaluate the inhibitory effects against tuberculous bacillus of the extracts from Humulus scandens.MIC of the extracts were measured by the means of double dilution.ResultsThe Nbutanol extract had obvious antibacterial activity to H 37 RV and the sensitive strain which separated from clinic.MIC of the extract was 125 μg· ml-1 and the high levels(1 mg· ml-1)of the extract had a killing activity.ConclusionThe extracts of H.scandens have obvious antimicrobial activity in vitro. It is worthy to be studied further.
