Primary studies on allelopathic activity of extracts from Eucalyptus globulus leaves against phytopathogens

The allelopathic bioactivities on mycelial growth and the dose-activity relationships of two different Eucalyptus globulus leaves extracts,petroleum ether extract and chloroform extract,against five phytopathogens,Pyricularia oryzae,Rhizoctonia solani,Fusarium solani,Venturia pyrina,and Alternaria solani,were determined by mycelial growth rate method in PDA petri dish.The results showed that Eucalyptus globulus leaves extracts provided different inhibition bioactivities against the phytopathogens at same dose treatment.The inhibition bioactivity of chloroform extract is better than petroleum ether one.Among five target phytopathogens,chloroform extract of Eucalyptus globulus leaves played the best performance against Pyricularia oryzae with its EC50 at 58.75 μg/mL.This study provides an important clue that will help to develop Eucalyptus globulus extracts as a botanical fungicide.
