The immunohistologic study of pancreatic cancer using bauhinia purpurea agglutinin

Objectives and methods The aim of the study is to identify the bauhinia purpuren BPA conjugating protein in pancreatic cancer by ADC immunohistochemical technique. Results There were no positive staining cells found in normal pancreatic tissues. The positive rate of BPA was 8.3% (1/l2) in tissues from chronic pancreatitis; the total positive rate of BPA conjugating protein was 62.96%. in tissues from pancreatic cancer, which was much higher than that in tissues of chronic pancreatitis. The poorer the differentiation, the higher the positive rate of BPA conjugating protein, which was 100% (9/9);in moderately differentiated ones, 85. 7% (6/7): in well differentiated, 18.2% (2/11). There was no difference between metastatic (69.23%) and non-metastatic (57.14%) cases.
